Industry Week

Enthusiastic participation of the students in the Industry Week of Mechanical Engineering Department at DAVIET, Jalandhar

In a bid to augment academia-industry interaction, coupled with the purpose of infusing need-based sense of learning from the view point of industry relevance, a week long program “Industry Week” was observed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at DAVIET, Jalandhar from March 02-07, 2020. The one week technology extravaganza, a regular feature of the Department, included a whole range of programs, activities and proceedings such as expert lectures and hands on training workshops pertaining to learning relevant from the view point of industry’s expectation.

The event was inaugurated with Industry Expert Lecture Series in which Sh. Mukesh Kumar, DGM, Redington (India) Ltd., New Delhi delivered a highly informative talk on Digital Manufacturing and apprised the students about latest technologies in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. He said that focus of additive manufacturing is now changing from prototyping to mass production and that has been made possible due to advancements in the related technologies as he explained those to the students.  Sh. Sarabjeet Singh, Principal-Director, CIHT, Jalandhar, deliberated on Industry 4.0. The key feature of this semester’s industry week was the participation of very own alumni of the Department who came forward to share their expertise and experience and apprised the students about current trends and requirements of industry. Er. Gobinder Singh, who owns a startup, Er. Amneesh Behl, TR-TSM, Escorts Ltd. and Er. Ankur Gupta, cutting tools entrepreneur, were among the alumni of the department of who interacted in detail with the students.

Dr. Gaurav Kumar Dhuria, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, while explaining the relevance of the Industry Week said that the events in the week have been conceived to facilitate the students acquire much needed skills not just for being employable but also for creating employment opportunities for the youth. He said that a student has to add multi dimensions to his profile by acquiring relevant additional practical skills and current know-how of the technological developments in the industry. He said that the Industry Week is also an opportunity for students of different semesters of the department to come closer and work together in a team indulging in peer to peer learning. He said that team work is the mantra to success and emphasized on continuous learning, sincerity and focus towards the task in hand as some of the other important ingredients of success. He called upon the students to ensure a SMART goal setting with prior SWOT analysis and, with the support of faculty members and mentors, prepare a roadmap for attaining the goal.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal, DAVIET congratulated the department on the successful conduct of the Industry Week and stated that changing times demand continuous change in the way learning is imparted to students, more so in the academic realm dealing with science and technology. He laid stress on the importance of industry exposure, and exhorted the students to go for inter-disciplinary studies such as Mechatronics and prepare projects in the related fields.

The event included hands on training workshops wherein Sh. Vikram Motwani, Managing Director, Edmount Research and Development, imparted practical job oriented training on Die Designing while another training on PLC Programming was carried out by experts from CIHT Jalandhar.

The event was made possible by the joint efforts of Industry Week organizing committee comprising of faculty members Sh. Pankaj Sadana, Sh. Ankush Kohli and Dr. Gurveen Singh. All the faculty, staff members and students of the department attended and benefitted from the event.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, DAVIET committed to provide the best of technical education to the students with focus on inculcating skills to further enhance the employability prospects and entrepreneurship acumen of the students. K. S. Dhody, Former Executive Director, SML ISUZU Ltd. shared his experience and current status on Industry 4.0. Sh. Ankit Gupta, an alumnus of the Department and presently Manager, Larsen and Toubro MHPS Turbine Generator Pvt. Ltd., Surat, Gujarat and Sh. Vikram Motwani, Managing Director, Edmount Research and Development enlightened the students with their expertise.
Congratulations to Sh. Pankaj Sadana and Sh. S K Uppal, the coordinators and all the colleagues in the department for the great team effort in organizing and successful conduct of the event.

Workshop-cum-EDP on “Productivity Improvement through Lean Manufacturing, Smart Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing”

In it’s relentless pursuit to impart best of the Technical Education to the students and to keep them abreast with the current trends in the industry, the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a one day workshop-cum-EDP on “Productivity Improvement through Lean Manufacturing, Smart Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing” in association with National Productivity Council Chandigarh and Laghu Udyog Bharti as part of National Productivity Week of NPC being observed from Feb 12-18. It was a great privelege to hear Dr. Rupinder Singh, my revered mentor and professor NITTTR, Chd. as he captivated the audience with a thorough presentation on Waste Minimization through Additive Manufacturing and discussed the highly informative and relevant to mankind case studies of their research group. The motivating address by Sh. Arvind Dhumal, President Laghu Udyog Bharti Punjab, Dr. Manoj Kumar, hon’ble Principal DAVIET and Mr. Harish Gupta, president Laghu Udyog Bharti Jalandhar gave a wonderful and perfect start to the event. Sh. R S Solanki and Sh. Ankur Dhir, both empaneled consultants with NPC apprised the audience about Lean Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 respectively. The event would not have been possible without the support of Sh. Harish Gupta, Sh. S P Singh, Regional Director NPC, his team and faculty and staff members of ME Department of DAVIET. Several industrialists from the city who attended the event and students of the institute got immensely benefitted from the knowledge shared. #ASHRAE Students’ Chapter

 

Department of Mechanical Engineering of DAVIET has launched #ASHRAE Students’ Chapter on October 21, 2019. ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers, is the premier international body in the HVAC&R field, with more than 56,000 members from over 132 nations. ASHRAE is a diverse organization representing building system design and industrial processes professionals around the world. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainability within the industry. The installation ceremony of the student branch was presided over by the chief guest Mr. S.C. Popli, Advisor-Business and Skill Development, Daikin Air Conditioning India Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon. Mr. Dinesh Rawat, Coordinator of ASHRAE India chapter, was also present on the occasion.
On this occasion Mr. S. C. Popli, very aptly, delivered an expert talk on the “Current trends in Air Conditioning accompanied by a case study of Daikin India”. He explained the inverter technologies currently being used in the industry along with the processes involved in setting them up. He introduced the pupils about their highly innovative Precision Piping Method (PPM) for installation which has leads to virtually elimination of Brazing and thus making system quick to install. He also discussed at length and breadth about their R32 refrigerant and VRV technology (Variable Refrigerant Volume). He said that the air-conditioning sector is here to stay and there is a humongous potential in the Air conditioning industry of India for job creation and driving the sales.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Gaurav Kumar Dhuria, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department as well as Student Branch Advisor of DAVIET ASHRAE Students’ Branch said that a student has to add multi dimensions to his profile by acquiring relevant additional practical skills and current know-how of the technological developments in the industry. He said that association with professional bodies of international stature such as ASHRAE gives an opportunity for students of different semesters of the department to come closer and work together in a team indulging in peer to peer learning while benefiting from the professional engineers across the globe through networking. Team work is the mantra to success in the professional world, he added. He emphasized the need for bridging the gap between the academia and the industry and said that the focus of activities of the student branch will be on imparting the skill, which is the most important ingredient of employability.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET congratulated the department for this initiative and extended his best wishes to the student members for a fruitful association and learning in the ASHRAE students’ branch.
Mr. Dinesh Rawat apprised the students about the various student welfare programs being regularly conducted in ASHRAE including project funding, scholarships and journal publishing. He encouraged the students to participate in the events conducted by the organization and also organize the same.
At the end of the session, office bearers for session 2019-20 were announced and certificates were distributed to the student members of the branch by dignitaries. Faculty members and staff members of the department also remained present on the occasion.
