Centre of Excellence

The DAVIET Research Centre was established in January 2008 to promote research in interdisciplinary area of Nanotechnology. The DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi provided a seed money of Rs. 50 lakhs for the purchase of equipment and creating infrastructure.

Recently, Universal Scanning Probe Microscope (Model NT-MDT Solver PRO M4) has been imported from Ireland and installed. Hind High Vac Thin Film coating unit is under installation.

A major research project ” Fabrication & Characterization of Semiconductor Nanowires for use in Opto-Electronics” of 2.64 Crores has been submitted to Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India in June 2009 under “Nano Mission”, the special cell set up under DST to promote nanoscience and technology in India.

Dr. Poonam Sharma, Ph. D. in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar has joined as Research Scientist and Mr. Vishal Baloria, M. Sc. from NIT, Jalandhar, as Research Scholar in the research centre. Dr. Poonam Sharma will be specializing in fabrication of nanoparticles, nanoclusters and nanowires using chemical techniques, namely sol-gel and reverse micelle. Mr. Vishal Baloria will be working in the area of thin film solar cells. Dr. H. S. Virk, Director Research will focus on fabrication and characterization of metal-semiconductor heterostructures using track-etched membranes and porous alumina as templates. The template synthesis technique will be used for fabrication of nano-diode arrays and other nanodevices like CdS, ZnSe, Zn/CdSe etc. Current-voltage characteristics of quantum dots and nanowires will be studied for their potential use in room temperature single electronics with the active involvement of faculty of Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. It is envisaged to investigate morphology, structure, electric, magnetic and optical behaviour of fabricated nanodevices using AFM, SEM, TEM, FTIR and XRD techniques. The results of our investigations will be used in the field of nano-electronics and material science.
