DEPARTMENT: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Introduction:                                                                          

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest disciplines of engineering and the history of Mechanical Engineering begins from the time when man started making the stone tools.    However, the invention of steam engine by James watt in 1768 was the most significant contribution, which brought about the “Industrial revolution” in England. Just by the end of eighteenth century, Watt’s engines were driving paper mills, Corn mills and cotton spinning mills and were put in operation in mining, steel & other industries. The field of mechanical engineering continued its expansion till date and many of its branches are now independent disciplines in technical institutes.

Vision:
 To create an environment in the department, which is conducive to the sincere studies, as well as to the development of overall personalities of the young students by inculcating in them the healthy habits, Ethical values, cultural outlook and co-operative spirit, so that after completion of their course they are not only good technocrats but good citizens also possessing a high degree of integrity and sincerity and are in a position to contribute to the society and carve a niche for themselves for a successful and bright professional career, bringing  the good name to the institution and the department.

 Mission
The course aims at developing practical and theoretical knowledge in the different subjects of Mechanical Engg. discipline, offered by the department.  Other subjects like Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Applications are also taught to Mech.Engg. Students to enable them to cope up with the computerized environments. Besides academic inputs, the development of dignity of labour, safety at workstation, spirit for teamwork, quality consciousness and positive attitude is another mission of the Deptt. The instructional process is interactive between the faculty and the  students. The stress is given on quality education for enhancing employment potential of the students of the department.
