DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jalandhar got an opportunity to host “PTU Inter College Cross Country (M & W) Tournament: 2007” on November 17, 2007. 7 teams in the category of men & 3 teams in the category of women initiated to participate in this gala event. The sports persons from different Institutes affiliated to Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar participated with full zeal & vigour. Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh, Director Sports, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar remained the Chief Guest on the occasion. He is an International level Volleyball player and an academician of par excellence. He is associated with foreign universities also. Sh. Jagjit Singh Saroya, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police presided over the function. He is a renowned Olympian and World Champion in wrestling. He is Maharaja Ranjit Singh Awardee by Punjab Govt. Sh. Jugraj Singh, a renowned Olympian (Hockey), PAP, Jalandhar was the Guest of Honour on the day. Sh. Gurmail Singh, Observer Tournament, PTU, Sh. Ram Pratap, Convener of Tournament, Sh. Rajneesh Sachdeva, Dean Sports & Cultural, PTU, Sh. Dhall, Sh. Manu Sood and Sh. Hardev Singh along with other sports personalities witnessed the Tournament.
After the flag hoisting ceremony, the balloons were released in order to symbolize happiness and tranquility. Afterwards the Chief Guest declared the Tournament open.
Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh appreciated the efforts made by the organizers for arranging this championship. He motivated the students of various Institutions to take part in such sports activities in future as well along with cultural activities and academics for overall development of personality in this world of cutthroat competition. He threw light on sports as an important facet of life and stated that sports culture should be inculcated among the youth.
Sh. C.L.Kochher, Director-cum-Principal of DAVIET heartily welcomed the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, sportspersons and officials from various participating Institutions and Punjab Technical University. He cherished the participants in flying colours. He congratulated the winners and inspired them to work hard in future to cut the crop in the same manner.
He stated that all the players have practiced very hard and their untiring efforts are flamboyantly seen. He stated that this is the sheer effort of the students of DAVIET that they are winning under the able guidance of Dr. B.S Bal. This gala event was concluded with distribution of awards and honours to dignitaries.
