TECHNICAL EVENTS


       I would here like to acknowledge the unconditional support of DAV College Managing Committee to provide an impetus to the research activities. This year our managing committee has contributed an amount of Rs. 50 lakhs to set up a research lab in the area of Nanotechnology. Nanotechnology a buzz word these days is an allied and multidisciplinary stream. Dr. H.S. Virk, a Researcher and Scientist par excellence has joined us as the Director (Research). He is going to setup a research lab that will be first of its kind in the North Zone.
Conducting of Expert Lectures and Workshops has become a regular feature for us. We invite not only distinguished scientists & technocrats but also the people from industry to share practical experiences of life.
       All the departments are also providing consultancy in their respective fields. In Mechanical, the area of focus is hardness testing of Ledger Plate & Crank while in Electrical engineering, it is Auto Power Factor Correction Panel and Earthing. In Civil we provide consultancy to a varied client list in Structural Engg., Geotechnical Engg., Transportation Engg., Environmental Engg. & Surveying.  In Electronics and communication engineering &Electrical Engineering, we organized a four day workshop on Embedded System Design & VLSI Design on Robotics in collaboration with International Institute of Information Technology, Pune.
       Technical Events remained the lifeline through this itinerary of the past year. We organized In house technical festivals like ‘Sparks 07’ by CSE & IT Department, “Techreig – 07” by Civil & Mechanical Engineering Department and C3E by Electronics & Electrical Department.  These students managed in house technical festivals gained momentum with students showcasing their potentials in a varied number of technical events edging on infotainment.
       We also hosted a three day National Technical symposium ‘Techkriti – 08’. We recorded a huge participation from students all over the country including Bombay, Delhi, UP and more. More than 1200 students from various institutes like Indraprasha Engg. College, Gaziabad, K.J. Somaiah College, Mumbai, JECRC, Jaipur, Model Institute of Engg. & Technology, Jammu to name a few participated in Techkriti. With a varied number of competitive events, the technical gala casted many expert talks and interactive sessions.
       The session zoomed on with the magnificent chat by Mr. Dilip Kumar Sahu National Head,Wipro Technologies and  expert talk by Dr. V.P. Sandlas on Electromagnetic Pollution . Dr. Ratan K. Datta  talked on Quantum Computing while Dr. Ravi Kiran  delivered his lecture on “India- An Emerging Economy in the new globalised Scenario” . Sh. Arvind Dixit, Director, Advance Technology delivered talk on “Advancement & Application into Embedded Systems” while Dr. S.K Sharma and Sh. Angshuman Datta , Manager- Learning Services (North & East)presented expert lectures on “Prospects in Civil Engg” and “Open Source and Red Hat” respectively.
Sh. S.D. Omchary, Senior Executive Director, DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd. & Secretary, DAVCMC, New Delhi presided over the function for all the three days. Sh. S.D. Omchary had an interactive session with the students and shared his practical experiences with them.
 
Winning has become a habit with DAVIETians and our students emerge as unmatched glories and bring laurels to the Institute. In ‘Aranaya – 08’ – the technical festival in Thapar and ‘TechNiti-08’ – the technical bonanza of NIT, Jalandhar, our students won top positions in areas widely ranging from Essay Writing to Case Studies, from developing new biz plans to creating softwares & mud rally etc.  
We regularly sponsor our students to attend conferences, seminars & workshops. Our students of First Year Ms. Prerna Dogra presented a paper titled Six Sigma at NIT, Hamirpur.  Mr. Puneet Sabharwal of  Pre -Final Year Civil presented two papers in ICER i.e. International Congress of Environment & Research. Mr. Navrooz Singh, a student of CSE – 2nd Year won a year subscription of Outlook Magazine in ‘Tycoon – 08’ – a competitive events for 32 colleges organised by Career Launchers.
Education envisions the people with indominitable spirit to achieve a passion to excell and zeal to move on the top and the obsession to remain on that top position. By the dint of hard work our students bring laurels to the institute. The ambience of our institute speaks volumes of growth oriented learning environment that is required for all round development of the students.

DAVIET bagged the following positions in various competitions of technical events during the year 2006 - 07:

1. We bagged first position in Inter Collegiate “Debating” and second position in    “Essay Writing” competitions organized by National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT) in collaboration with Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, on 21st Oct.’06.

2. Our student Mr. Kapil Garg, of Mech. Engg. - Final year presented a paper on “Simple Solutions - Quick and Effortless Changeover of Tractor Management” during the Techfest - 2007 held at I.I.T., Bombay on 26 - 28 January, 2007, and won second position in this event. The following awards were presented to him during the above said Techfest for winning the said position

   A cash prize of Rs. 3000/-

3. Our student Mr. Ranvir Singh Gill of Mech. Engg. - 3rd Sem. bagged first position in the competition of “Terrain Racing” during Aranya 06 (A Technology Mega Festival) held at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, on November 16-19, 2006.

4. We bagged following positions during a National Level Techfest organized by SLIET, Longowal, on 06 - 08 October, 2006:
